High School Equivalency Testing

Cape Cod Community College provides both HiSET and GED testing on campus. Both tests are computer based and registration and test scheduling is completed online.

HiSET Testing

To register and schedule to take the HiSET examination at 4Cs, please go to to either the HiSET website (hiset.ets.org) or the GED website (ged.com). Once you are at either one of these websites, you will first need to create your own personal HiSET or GED account.

The HiSET and GED websites are specifically designed for those interested in finding out more about these tests and/or how to go about taking one of these tests. These websites will provide you with the most current information regarding the test, along with test taker information and practice tests. This information will give you a better idea of what to expect on the test, links on how to best prepare to take the test, and lead you through the steps to register and to schedule to take one of these tests.

Once you have established an account, and you feel you are ready to take the test, log-in to your personal account and schedule and pay for your test online.

GED Testing

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education have established specific requirements for those who would like to take the HiSET or GED test in Massachusetts. These include:

  1. You must be a resident of Massachusetts with a Massachusetts address.
  2. You must not be currently enrolled in any secondary school program and must not have received a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.
  3. You must be 18 or older to be eligible to take the HiSET or GED test in Massachusetts with no qualifications. If you are 16 or 17 years old, please see the information below on the procedure for registering for either of these test.
  4. You must present valid, proper picture identification at the test center for each test session. Approved picture identification documents include: a valid driver's license or learner's permit, valid passport, valid state-issued ID card, valid Military ID card, valid Tribal ID card, or valid National ID card. Failure to provide this documentation will prohibit you from taking the test.

As of January 1, 2015, the requirements and procedures for verifying individuals who are under the required eligibility age of 18 years of age to take the high school equivalency tests (HiSET* or GED) have changed. If you are 16 or 17, you cannot schedule any HiSET or GED exams until an official Letter of Withdrawal from your last school attended has been approved by the Massachusetts High School Equivalency Office. However, you must complete the HiSET* or GED registration (create your own personal HiSET account) at www.hiset.org or www.ged.com as the first step. If you already have the Letter of Withdrawal or if you need to get it, please make sure it contains the following information:

  • Be on school letterhead, including the address and phone number;
  • Includes your last date of attendance and your date of withdrawal;
  • Comes from the office of the Principal/Headmaster or the Head of Guidance; and
  • Must be signed by the Principal/Headmaster or the Head of Guidance.

Then submit the letter to the name and address below, making sure you have provided your ETS or GED ID number, your phone number and your e-mail address. The letter and the additional information must be submitted by mail to the following address:

HSE Office, 3rd floor
